:pirate_booty()

A relentless ransomware virus that locks away files and causes the target's subroutines to cost more CODA.

A virus that, once successful, encrypts all of the target's files and demands payment in order to have the encryption removed. This makes it impossible for the user to access their documents, pictures, recordings and increases their cost to use all subroutines.

  • Acquisition Cost: 4 XP | 40,000 Dollars | 400 Credits
  • Digital Noise Generated: 4
  • CODA Cost: 4
  • Requirements: Network Connection
  • Subroutine Traits: Implant Virus
  • Range: 100 Meters / Network
  • Target: An uninfected digital device, cybernetically enhanced individual(brain) or robot.
  • Turn Portion: Full Round Action

Effect: The Target must Roll an Intellect Saving Throw. The DC is equal to your Subroutine Save DC.

Failure: If the Target Fails the Saving Throw they are infected with the “Pirate Booty” Virus, which has the following effects.

  • The target cannot access any Pictures, Videos, Audio Files or Documents on the infected device.
  • All Subroutines the target attempts to activate cost an additional 1 CODA.
  • A message is displayed on the target’s device, demanding a ransom payment in exchange for an end to the lockout. The target can willingly send funds from an account or line of credit directly to the infector in the hopes that they end the lockout and the effects of the virus.

If the target pays the ransom, the Infector is under no obligation to unlock the device, however they can do so via an Action at any time.

Success: If the Target Succeeds on the Saving Throw they are unaffected and uninfected. The user’s Turn Portion and CODA are still spent.

Overpower: Spend 1 additional CODA to:

  • Add +2 to the Save DC for this instance of the Subroutine.
  • Add +25 Meters to this instance of the Subroutine’s Range.
  • Add +1 to the CODA cost for the target’s Subroutines if this virus’ infection is successful.

You can overpower as many times and in as many ways as you can afford to do so.
