Profile
Self Introduction
“Well done. I’m impressed, and I don’t get impressed easily. My name’s not important, but yours? Your names are going to be important. In fact if you’re willing to hear me out, I think we could add “Riftguard” to your, no doubt, already substantial list of titles attached to those names. What do you say?”.
Personality
- Secretive: Rarely tells the full truth, even when she’s on your side.
- Compassionate: Cares deeply for the poor, young, orphaned, handicapped and old.
- Heroic: Wears the burden of someone who regularly makes life and death choices.
- Hopeless Romantic: Believes in ideals others gave up on: love, redemption, dignity, sacrifice.
Motivations
Jaxia wants justice for all. The Melding threatens the poor most of all, and she knows Portaland’s elites will secure their estates and abandon the commoners in the event of an evacuation.
Her plan is to form the Riftguard to protect those who have no voice. She cannot, lest she risk being caught and tried for her many crimes.
If she should earn absolvence from her many crimes for her contributions in the process, then so be it.
Morals
- Communist
- Vigilante
Jaxia demands justice and refuses to conform to the laws of her land. Because of this, she is an outlaw and vigilante. She robs the tribute caravans and tax collectors of the king and secretly gives the money back to the poor in an act of defiance.
Quirks
- Paranoid - As a wanted woman, Jaxia is constantly on edge. Searching every corner and checking every shadow.
- Lover - Jaxia has always been a servant to her affections. She feels strongly and has been swept up in many a whirlwind romance.
Mechanical Benefit
- Grants players access to Superior Ammunition.
- +3 to Damage Rolls with Ranged Weapons.
- Ammunition is never tracked. She somehow always has a steady supply of donated arrows from an “unknown benefactor”.
- Perfect for bow-wielders, slingers, or even rogue-types using throwing weapons.
Role in Portaland
- Hero and vigilante of Portaland. Protector of the poor, weak and downtrodden. Savior of orphans, slayer of beasts and constant thorn in the king’s side.
- Operates through coded messages, painted sigils, or runners.
- Her supporters may include former thieves, rebellious priests, or common folk.
Narrator Tips
- Jaxia Crow can be:
- A mentor figure to a PC with a troubled past.
- A moral compass in a gray world.
- A difficult ally who refuses noble titles or compensation.
- Ideal for storylines involving betrayals, redemption, or hidden networks.
Appearance
Physical Description
Jaxia Crow carries herself like someone who was born in shadow, raised by wolves, and carved by rebellion. She is statuesque, lithe and athletic, with a strong archer’s back and graceful posture. She speaks with a smooth, confident voice that is low-toned and rich, with a slight lilt that’s as capable of flirting as it is commanding.
Her beauty is fierce with a soft edge, the kind of beauty that makes people stare but feel unsure whether to ask for her name or forgiveness. She has long, dark lashes and sharp cheekbones, sun-kissed skin, and a mouth that seems the rest in a half smirk.
Her red-brown hair is often tucked behind one ear, visible beneath her trademark dark green hood, and streaked with gold near the roots.
She is openly, proudly feminine in defiance of anyone who said she couldn’t be. She walks like the city owes her a favor, and smiles like she knows something you don’t.
Typical Style of Dress
Jaxia’s clothing is built for freedom of movement and calculated visibility. She knows exactly when to disappear, and when to leave an unforgettable silhouette.
- Outerwear: A hunter’s dark green hooded cloak, often clasped at the collarbone with a crow’s talon brooch. Lined with hidden pockets and light armor plating.
- Armor: Reinforced black leather corset-bodice over a flexible blouse — one that clings just enough to show off her curves, especially under moonlight or torchlight.
- Trousers & Boots: Soft, fitted breeches tucked into high-laced boots designed for rooftops and forest floors alike.
- Accessories: Fingerless leather gloves with carved notches for confirmed hits.
- Weapons: Her longbow, dark as night and etched with the phrases “freedom is forever”, is never more than a few feet away. A simple, yet finely crafted rapier hangs at her side.
Aura / First Impression
Jaxia Crow turns heads when she wants to, and disappears in a crowd just as easily. In the poor districts, she’s a hero. In courtrooms she’s a villian. In taverns she’s a myth and a legend.
Her bemused half smirk adds to her mystique and appeal. You can’t tell if she’s flirting or laughing at a joke you’re not in on.
Nonetheless, she’s always watching and she seems to remember everything.
Secrets and Rumors
Secrets & Rumors
- She Was Once the Cult’s Chosen Target: Before she became “The Hood,” the then Jax lived in a noble household.
She was kidnapped as a child by the cult as a sacrifice for “The One Across the Veil”. They seemed to believe that “The One” required a young male host to possess, and she was prophesied to be the chosen one.
She escaped, barely, and burned the manor down behind her, killing several cultists in the process.
The cult now hates and fears her. Some cultists still believe she is the prophesied one. Others see her as a “defective offering” that is an affront to their beliefs about power, purity, and purpose.
- She’s in Love with a Cultist in Hiding: Once, long ago, Jaxia fell in love with a fellow runaway; someone who later fell in with the Pinnacle to survive. That person (Narrator's choice of rolled cultists) is Jaxia’s greatest weakness. Jaxia risks everything to visit them in secret, unable to sever the bond, even though she knows they still believe in the Cult's teachings.
Should this connection be revealed, her loyalty could be called into question. She prepares for the day she may have to take that person down herself, should they do the unspeakable for the cult.
- She was Once a Noble who Lost her Estate: Assigned male at birth, Jax Crown was once a loyal soldier to the throne and served in many of their Weekend Wars. They were nearly killed and captured by the enemy and were unable to escape and return until five years later. During that time they were assumed dead and their estate was absorbed by the Constable of Portaland. That is when Jax Crown became Jaxia Crow and her burning desire for vengeance and justice was born.
Should this ever be revealed to her followers, it could dissolve their faith in her as a defender of the common folk.
