Hoos

Small / Avian / Biped

Description

Hoos greatly resemble their Owl ancestors and have retained most of their adaptations and some of their behaviors. Small hands protrude from the ends of both their wings, which they can use to grasp and manipulate objects. Their bodies are covered in feathers of various earth and wood tones and they have large flat faces with their massive eyes dominating the space. They have small curved beaks and talons on their toes and fingers.

Society

Family Units

Due to their individual freedoms and the ability to travel where they please, many Hoos move about as a family unit. Forming societies that are only as big as their extended families. For them it makes sense and is the ideal way of life. Few Hoos leave this lifestyle, only a rare orphaned or adventurous Hoo is occasionally seen by other cultures. Because of this adaptation, Hoos that do settle outside of their family territories tend to form particularly strong bonds with their friends and coworkers, treating them like their “chosen family”.

Traits

Hollow Bones

The downside of the ability to fly is the lightweight and easily broken bones of a bird. All Hoos are vulnerable to Blunt Force Damage but are capable of true flight.

Abilities

Night Vision

Can see without penalty in Dim and Dark lighting conditions.

Light Sensitive: You have -2 to Perception, Investigation and Survival Skill Rolls while in Well Lit or brighter Lighting Conditions.

Superior Vision

Hoos have incredible eyesight due to their massive eyes. On top of this Hoos can rotate their heads 180 degrees allowing them to always keep their head on a swivel. All Hoos gain a miscellaneous +3 to Perception Skill Rolls.

Winged Flight

You gain a fly speed equal to your movement speed. Every Minute(6 Rounds) of combat flight causes you to lose 1 Stamina and you cannot rest while flying. Sustained Flight causes you to lose 1 Stamina every hour. Having one or more of your wings wounded causes you to immediately lose the ability to fly until recovered. Being knocked prone while flying causes you to fall until you are able to use 3 meters of movement to “stand” and resume flying. You cannot Fly while wearing Heavy Armor. You can carry 1 small or smaller creature while flying.

Increased Space Requirements: While walking requires only as much space as your character occupies to continue movement, Flying upward or horizontally requires an additional Meter of space on any one side of your character. Smaller spaces do not allow your wings to flap and provide lift. If you are traveling downward during your flying movement then the above rule does not apply.

Silent Flight: You gain Advantage and +2 to all Stealth Skill Checks made while flying.

Beak and Talons

All Hoos have the distinctive Beaks and Talons of their birdlike ancestors. A threatened Hoo is much more likely to Peck or Claw, rather than throw a punch.
