Profile

Self Introduction

“Well, well, well! The main characters have finally arrived. Welcome, welcome, welcome — and what a spectacular entrance you’ve made already!

I am Heraldo Luntz, playwright, producer, publicist, actor; and if you’ll allow it, your humble servant.

With moves like that, I could make you famous. You do a few more battles like that for me, and they’ll sing songs and write epics about you. I’ll see to it personally.

Just imagine it: Riftguard and Riftscarred, Riftspawn Be Gone, Tales from the Rift!

Honestly, it writes itself.”

Personality

  • Eccentric, frequently dressed in outdated stage costumes.
  • Theatrical, speaks in flourishes and exaggerated metaphors.
  • Dramatic, often proclaims events as “acts” and people as “characters in the great script of fate.”

Motivations

Heraldo Luntz sees the chaos of the Melding not as a tragedy but as a grand tale unfolding, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to chronicle the rise of new heroes. He wishes to write and direct the next epic, casting the Riftguard as his protagonists. Fame and immortality through story are his goals.

Morals

  • Artist
  • Personal Ambition

Heraldo is, and always has been, in it for himself. There is nothing he does that is not motivated by personal interest or benefit. All the while, he wants to weave everything he’s seen and experienced into a story. He wants to create a great work of art that will be talked about for centuries.

Quirks

  • Pathological Liar - Heraldo can’t help but tell stories, even when it serves him no benefit other than entertainment. He casually lies, fibs and exaggerates about almost everything.
  • Vain - Heraldo takes extreme pride in his presentation and appearance and often assumes people are talking about him when making compliments.

Mechanical Benefit

  • +1 Renown earned per Encounter.
    • Heraldo works tirelessly behind the scenes to glorify the Riftguard, publicize their deeds, and ensure their names spread throughout Renna.
    • He may even fund posters, plays, or bardic songs after each major victory.

Role in Portaland

  • The only producer of plays and performances in Portaland.
  • He resides in the city's amphitheater in the eastern quarter of Portaland, where bards and playwrights gather. He owns the amphitheater and lives on the top floor.
  • During rest phases, players who visit Heraldo may be asked to “reenact” parts of their battle, giving an opportunity for fun roleplay, light-hearted dramatization, or even in-world propaganda.

Narrator Tips

  • Heraldo is ideal for lightening the mood between dark encounters.
  • He provides a slightly meta-aware flavor to the game: referring to player choices as “narrative arcs” or “fateful twists.”
  • A great NPC for inspiring heroism, or annoying more serious party members.

Appearance

Physical Description

Heraldo Luntz looks like a man who always makes an entrance. He’s in his late 30s, with a dramatic flair that seems immune to embarrassment and an expressive face carved for stages that don’t exist anymore.

He’s average height but carries himself with the grandeur of a stage magician. His hair is dark and swept back, intentionally tousled to suggest youthful creativity. His mustache is waxed into a curl; his smile is half-sincere, half for show. His voice is rich, resonant, and frequently projected.

His hands are always in motion: adjusting his collar, twirling his mustache, or framing a scene in the air. His eyes are quick and reflective, like someone always scripting the next moment even as it happens.

Typical Style of Dress

Heraldo dresses like a man caught halfway between a noble and a costumed actor.

  • Coat: A long, high-collared red velvet coat lined with black satin. One lapel is always pinned with a cast of local theater badges, rebellion crests, and fake medals.
  • Shirt: Frilled and loose, often embroidered with scenes from plays
  • Pants & Footwear: Tall leather boots polished to a theatrical shine, often over soft, form-fitting trousers that allow for dramatic kneeling.
  • Accessories: A monocle he doesn’t need, Several rings, and a satchel full of parchment, flyers, scripts, quills, and ink pots.
  • Makeup: Light powdering. Always stage-ready.

Aura / First Impression

Heraldo always has the first and last word, laughs before you’re sure it’s funny, and makes whatever he is talking about feel significant. He makes people feel like they’ve stumbled into a story or play.

He makes the Riftguard feel like legends. He makes death feel like a well-timed curtain fall. He makes everything just a little more bearable, or unbearable, depending on your temperament.

Secrets and Rumors

Secrets & Rumors

  • He is a Failed Actor who Married an Old Widow for her Fortune: Decades ago, Heraldo was a struggling actor in a ruined district. He couldn’t make it on his own and decided to do the second best thing; Seduce an older woman with his acting skills and inherit her estate once she passes. He did just that and has been attempting to erase any mention of that part of his past ever since.
  • He Has Been Secretly Rewriting Riftguard History: Every pamphlet, playbill, and public retelling of the Riftguard’s victories goes through Heraldo — and he has been editing liberally.
  • Downplaying defeats.
  • Fabricating speeches.
  • Inserting characters that don’t exist.

He believes he’s “crafting morale,” but some fear he's creating false myths that might undo real truths. Worse — his version of history might become magically anchored through repetition.

  • He Has Ties to the Cult Through an Ex-Lover: Heraldo’s former muse and paramour, a flamboyant director named Celestain Vox, disappeared into the Cult years ago after replacing their cast with summoned doubles.

Heraldo knows where Celestain is hiding and still receives letters from them, filled with twisted praise and “suggestions” for rewriting the city’s story.

He hasn’t told anyone. He’s not sure if he wants to save them… or immortalize them as a villain.

  • He Believes He Will Die Publicly — And Is Preparing for It: Heraldo has written his own death monologue, updated regularly. He carries it in a locket on his chest.

In it, he names his favorite Riftguard, his regrets, and a true name only known to the oldest theater spirits. He believes that if spoken properly, it will anchor him in memory forever.
