Information Breakdown

A lot of information is displayed all at once in the playable species section. Following this guide will cue you in on where to look for information relevant to your character build and help define all of the terms used in the following section.

Name of Species

The common name used to refer to that species. While these are the official Altered Realms names used, there are infinite realms, all with their own unique languages and slang and no one name for a species is used across every single realm.

Size of Species

This section describes the overall size of an individual of that species, which also places them into a size category from which creature’s HP die type is derived.

Type of Species

This section describes the species genetic family grouping which greatly affects the physiology, appearance, traits and abilities of a given species.

Locomotion of Species

This section describes the type of locomotion and general body structure a given species utilizes.

Average Height

To roll your height, use the table below:

Size Category Die Roll Formula

Small 8d12+10 Centimeters
Medium 16d12+ 30 Centimeters
Large 30d12+ 60 Centimeters

Average Weight

To roll your weight, use the table below:

Size Category Die Roll Formula
Tiny 10d12+80 Grams
Small 5d10+5 Kilograms
Medium 6d12+10 Kilograms
Large 8d12+25 Kilograms

*Some species(such as pixies) have a weight that defies their size and should have their weight rolled as if they were a larger or smaller creature.

Species Traits

Species traits are general characteristics and defining features common to all members of a given species.

Species Abilities

Species abilities are things that a given species or subspecies can do that others cannot.

AC

AC stands for Armor Class. If a species has their armor class increased they are more difficult to hit or for damage to be dealt to them.

Armor Points

In altered realms if a creature has armor points they can choose to subtract damage dealt to them from their armor points or their hit points or both.

HP

HP stands for Hit Points. A creature with more HP takes more damage to be rendered unconscious, wounded or slain and is therefore considered to be "tougher".

Initiative

A creature's Initiative determines how quickly they respond to life or death situations such as combat. Whenever combat is initiated in game, all creatures present Roll Initiative. The creature that has the highest combined roll goes first in the turn order in the next combat encounter. Creatures add their Initiative to their Initiative Rolls. Creatures with a higher initiative have a significantly higher chance of acting first or higher in the initiative order.
